EuroSteamCon I

viernes, 12 de octubre de 2012

Tea in the Clockwork Yard couldn't be present in the celebration of the EuroSteamCon (European Steampunk Convention) that was celebrated last September. However, we've got friends that could. One of them was Josué Ramos, author of two novels and manager of the blog Mundo Steampunk. Thanks to him we bring with us a chronicle of the two days of the convention as it was felt in Madrid. We'll leave you with the first one.

Friday, 28th. Pre-EuroSteamCon.

We can summarize it in just two concepts: literature and clothes. The party began around ten o'clock in the night and it lasted until, more or less, two in the morning, with a calm ambience, no hurry, and specially relaxed and enjoyable both for the guests and for the partakers of the different acts that took place.
The first of the introductions was done by a special guest, Jesús Cañadas, writer of the horror genre. Both for being an interested author in steampunk and retrofuturist movements and for his personality, Jesús proved to be the ideal person to introduce Ecos de voces lejanas (Echoes of distant voices), the second novel of Josué Ramos and the first one totally steampunk. Of this introduction worths noting a quote that a lot of us took when finishing because of being a good summary of everything that Jesús wanted to tell: “Echos de voces lejanas (Echoes of distant voices) is a love letter to steampunk”.

Both him and Josué tried to accomplish their target of introducing the novel and attract the atention to its strong points as a steampunk narrative at the same time that they tried to interact with an audience wanting to participate, answering the questions that were done that had to do with the novel and having an interesting and funny chat about this topic.

It's also remarkable that, between the presentations, there were time gaps where lady Elizabeth Winchester or the jewelers of Decimononic showed a sample of their clothes and jewelery respectively. Introduced by Janacek Jadehierro, owner of the Ithilien, Elizabeth, Alfaya and Zelkova had the oportunity of explain the reason for their works and the objectives that tried to reach with their creations, as, in the same way, we could see some clothes made by Alassie and Lady Aguja and some complements and jewelery by Lua Chea, Lady Aguja and Rakel Archer.

Back to the literature, the second one of the three presentations of the night totally ran out in charge of Víctor Blázquez, guest author as representative of ESMATER, the Horror Writters Association of Madrid. The organization went out of the pure steampunk to talk about horror by and large. The part of Víctor was about explaining the mission that borns with this group of writters and which are their objectives facing the future. Of course, he was given the oportunity of linking this presentation of the association with the one of his first novel, El cuarto jinete (The fourth horsemen), published in the Z line of the publishing house Dolmen.

The literary chats raised by the presentations carried on between drinks all along the night between the three authors, Jesús Cañadas, Víctor Blázquez and Josué Ramos, and with the most of the people.

Finally, the third and the longest one of the three, was ruled by the management and the host of The New Golden Gear, direct organizer forum of EuroSteamCon Madrid. The Golden Gear presented the one that they called in many times as “the book of the forum” (an international compilation of their best creations in all artistic scopes) as their new and renewd image, that leads them to make one more twist to their philosophy in their opening to the international public, creating and keeping contact with steampunks all over the world, as an opening to new horizons, giving a place to another cultural movements, although steampunk and neo-victorian still are their hallmark.
