In past posts we talked about how this series, starred by Alexia Tarabotti, began, but, whe finishing Changeless, we could see the beginning of a wider plot that the one we thought when it started. This time, the book opens some days finished Changeless, where we can find a quite sad and depressed Alexia that, more than missing, hates his husband. Meanwhile, Lord Maccon spends nights and days being drunk, going round the Woolsey Castle. At this juncture of singleness, fights with her family and unemployment, Alexia is alone with the only companionship of Madame LeFoux, the weird french hatter, and Floote, the silent butler. Next to them she decides to go through the whole continent to arrive to Italy and discover more things about her origins, but she will get to discover more than that.
In this third book we can see a more conscious Alexia (if she was before) about her "baby inconvenience". Alexia seems more serene and serious than the one she was before, but has much more questions, maybe too much, and that is something that I loved, because Gail Carriger knows how to leave you with the doubt, waiting for the next book to solve some of them. I must recognize that this book is faster to read, what makes that when you've finished you think it's too short. This is a shame because you finally get to see different sides of the people like Floote, quite different to the silent butler, or a Madame LeFoux full of contacts in Europe because of the Order of the Brass Octopus, an much more mature and sane Ivy Hisselpenny than we though... All these things without taking into account that everybody seems to know something about Alexia's father, but no one wants to say a word, that the complications about the "baby inconvenience" seem to move vampires and werewolves, and not everybody wants to hel Alexia, and that history doesn't seem to be her side.
Summarizing, this is a highly recomended book. The setting, the plot and the character acquire a new dimesion in The Parasol protectorate, but, if you're one of those who bit their nails waiting for an answer, then you must to wait until the next book (or maybe read something about Sesame Street) ;)
